Saint Dominic School has a rich Catholic identity and continues the legacy of the IHM Sisters' in dedication and excellence in education. St. Dominic School is part of the University of Pennsylvania’s Distributed Leadership Program and continues to use/facilitate best practices in collaborative school leadership.
Our faculty is comprised of established teachers as well as newly licensed teachers. ALL of the teachers at St. Dominic School are certified in the state of Pennsylvania; and ALL of the teachers at St. Dominic School teach in their area of expertise and specialized training. Teachers are encouraged to continue their professional growth and development with opportunities to participate in educational seminars and workshops.
St. Dominic School offers a PreK3 and PreK4 program. The Pre-K classrooms incorporate early reading strategies using the Children's Literacy Initiative (CLI) of Philadelphia.
The curriculum at St. Dominic School is current. The school follows PA Common Core Standards as well as guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Student benchmarks are attained during the school year and frequent monitoring of student progress assists teachers with tailoring curriculum. The classroom focuses on the genuine learning experience and application of knowledge that is relevant and engaging to the learner. Teachers prepare detailed lesson plans which target essential questions. Teachers provide opportunities for independent learning, cooperative and/or peer learning, learning centers, differentiation and blended/flexible grouping.
St. Dominic School offers Learning Support. Our LS classrooms facilitate student learners in grades 2-3-4 and grades 5-6-7-8. Our two LS classrooms are staffed with certified LS teachers and aides. Additional services outside of the LS classroom are also available for our students.
St. Dominic School offers satellite (distance) learning with our Math Matters program. Math Matters is available for the advanced math student in fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.
The Fine Arts Department at Saint Dominic School includes school wide Spanish, Music, Art, Physical Education and Library Science. Enrichment programs such as Ballroom Dancing, Choir, PYM, Reading Olympics, and various sports – Basketball, Track & Field, and Swimming—are available to students in grades 1 through 8.
Saint Dominic School's Graduating Class of 2017 merited over $243,525 in scholarships!
